New ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders
Macquarie University will receive $21 million from the Australian Research Council.
Please join with me in congratulating your colleagues Professors Stephen Crain and Anne Castles and Emeritus Professor Max Coltheart who with Professor John Hodges of UNSW and Professor Jillian Rhodes of UWA have been successful in their bid for an ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders.
Professor Stephen Crain will lead the new ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders, which will receive $21 million to undertake research to help improve the diagnosis and treatment of a range of cognitive disorders, including dyslexia, language impairment, autism, dementia and schizophrenia.
The Centre will be administered by Macquarie, but will collaborate with a host of leading international research universities, such as Cambridge and Oxford in the UK.
Thank you to all members of staff who contributed to bringing the bid to fruition. The new Centre will work towards advancements in important areas research of benefit to cognitive science and the general community. Well done all. Congratulations also to our colleagues in the Faculty of Science whose applicaton, Core to Crust Fluid Systems lead by Professor Sue O'Reilly was also successful. Once again, Macquarie has shown itself to be a true leader in Australian research.
