Ben Knight of Sydney Kings named ambassador for the Centre for Emotional Health

The Centre for Emotional Health has appointed Ben Knight, known for his success on the basketball court with the Sydney Kings, as ambassador.

Ben KnightIn his role, Ben will increase awareness of the treatment and support the Centre for Emotional Health (CEH) provides Australians living with anxiety and associated emotional disorders.

“Organisations like the CEH are there to help people deal with stress and anxiety, and I think that’s so important. My dad died from cancer when I was 13 years old. It was a stressful and obviously very traumatic time for me. We had to keep Dad’s illness a secret from family and friends until after he died as he hadn’t wanted anyone to know he was sick,” said Ben.

“Being so young, I wouldn’t have made it through that period without the enduring support of my mum and extended family. In hindsight, I’ve realised you can get through pretty much anything as long as you have support around you. I believe that no one in our society should have to deal with stress or anxiety alone.”

Ben Knight is one of Australia’s most successful basketball players, enjoying an international career as a professional basketballer. Ben first signed with the Sydney Kings in 1997 and during this time he won a National Basketball League Championship in 2005. Ben has had the honor to have played 100 games for the Kings and 399 in his career.

“We’re thrilled that Ben is an ambassador for the CEH, as it’s another step towards building greater awareness of the support and treatment available to Australians living with emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression,” said director of the CEH, Professor Ron Rapee.

“Together with the research we conduct, we provide face-to-face tailored programs at the Centre as well as online support via our ecentreclinic.org. Support for anxiety and related difficulties are available no matter where you are.”

The Centre for Emotional Health is Australia’s foremost treatment and research hub for anxiety and emotional disorders. Through scientific research, it continually improves treatments for children and adults who live with anxiety.

The only centre of its kind in Australia, the CEH provides tailored treatment and support programs as well as funding cutting-edge research into anxiety and related difficulties.
